Bronenosets Potyomkin is a Russian film directed by Sergei Eisenstein in the year 1925.

This film is considered to be a milestone in the field of film editing. This is a kind of historical film, based on the 1905 rebellion of sailors from the warship, against injustice and the collective power in popular revolutions.

The film is divided into five parts dealing providing all minute details that have a meaning which is to be grasped by the viewer. In order to transcribe complex ideas and the depth of ideologies, Eisenstein came to the use of montage techniques inspired by oriental ideograms.

The fourth part of the film consists of the classic scene in the staircase of Odessa. The opening scenes which were bathed in light and joy are replaced by the shocking images of violent repression by the guard of the Czar. The ladder itself carries a symbol of the harsh social and political hierarchy and the difference between the classes.
